Treo by Palm 755p

The Palm Treo 755p is the perfect device for corporate users and tech junkies alike. However, if you are in the market for a smartphone that is high on style as well as filled with features--this is not the device for you. Let’s face it, the Palm Treo 755p is the epitome of form following function. There are tons of great features here, but the device isn’t exactly attractive. You buy this phone for the powerful Intel processor, the QWERTY keyboard, and the massive amount of network functions--not because it goes well with your outfit.

As a CDMA phone, the Palm Treo 755p is essentially locked to the American marketplace. However, despite the fact that the Palm Treo 755p cannot be used in many parts of the globe, it can be used extremely well in the areas where it can acquire a network connection. Taking advantage of the high speed EVDO network, the 3G data transfer rates you’ll get with the Palm Treo 755p are blistering.

Much like you would expect from a large smartphone with loads of features, the Palm Treo 755p is a behemoth. Measuring in at approximately four and a half inches by two and a half inches by one inch, and weighing in at over 150 grams, the Palm Treo 755p is the type of device you’ll likely keep in your briefcase or sport coat instead of your pants’ pocket.

Despite the large size, the Palm Treo 755p has a surprisingly short battery life. Expect to get only four hours of talk time or 10 days of standby time on a full charge. If you are taking this phone on long business trips, you’ll definitely want to pack a charger.

As is the case with all smart phones, the Palm Treo 755p comes equipped with a large 320 by 320 pixel touchscreen that features handwriting recognition. Also included in the device is a 1.3 megapixel digital camera that can capture pictures as well as video. There is even a self-portrait mode.

Other features are plentiful and include: a music and video player, expandable memory via mini SD, a full QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth support, a speakerphone, and a variety of other phonebook related features.

Pros

  • 3G support
  • Loads of features

Cons

  • Not exactly attractive
  • GPS support would be nice

Overall

Like so many other Palm phones before it, the Palm Treo 755p is a fantastic device for corporate users. While it’s not recommended for the average home consumer, it’s a steal for those who work for major businesses or the tech fields. Great features, great operating system, great processor. All in all, the Palm Treo 755p is a real winner.
