Sony Ericsson K550

Sony Ericsson K550

The Sony Ericsson K550 is a mid range candy bar style phone that features a 2 mega pixel high resolution digital camera, an extremely slim and light case and quad band GSM to work pretty much all over the world.

The main feature on the Sony Ericsson K550 is its 2 mega pixel high resolution camera. This camera takes extremely high quality pictures and includes an LED flash and an automatic lens cover. This phone is perfect for those that are looking for a phone with a good quality camera. Although the camera delivers marvelous results, the memory stick cards it uses (M2) are usually much more expensive per megabyte than standard TransFlash or other types of memory cards.

Besides the camera, the phone is extremely easy to use and requires only a few short minutes to get the hang of it. The screen has great resolution and is easy to read in direct sunlight. Besides these features, the phone comes equipped with Bluetooth, EDGE high speed data transfer and quad band GSM. This phone is great for those looking to travel around the world, since it can be used around the world (including USA and Europe) with almost all services.

Call quality is excellent and I had no problem with reception, battery life or using the keypad. It should be noted that the Sony Ericsson K550 is sturdy and feels great in the palm of your hand. The phone also includes a media player and FM tuner so you can easily listen to your favorite music on the go. While not a complete replacement for your iPod, the quality is quite good and the media player is easy to use. The phone comes equipped with a speakerphone and while not the best I have heard, it is adequate.

Pros

  • The Sony Ericsson K550 is a small, light weight easy to use phone that is perfect for most users
  • High quality 2 mega pixel camera took excellent images. Two great additional features were the LED flash and the lens cover
  • Quad band GSM allows you to use this phone all over the world
  • High quality build, very sturdy
  • Easy to use interface, keypad was comfortable and normal phone functions were very intuitive
  • Includes Bluetooth and EVDO high speed data transfer

Cons

  • Storage requires M2 memory stick (usually more expensive and less versatile than other types of memory cards)
  • Speakerphone could have been a drop better
  • Antenna and data connections are in odd places on the phone

Overall

A great phone, especially if you would like a high quality camera. While this phone has a few things that are not perfect, for the most part it delivers high quality performance.
