Those who fell in love with i-mate Jam will definitely fall in love all over again with the new and improved i-mate K-JAM - rumored as the JAM's successor. It still provides you with mobile phone handset basics together with all pocket PC functions. Why K-JAM? Probably due to the sliding shell keyboard, perhaps? Though features are the same, the manufacturer just made it even better. Also called HTC Wizard, this phones 2.8 inch (diameter) screen is clear and bright - thanks to its 320 x 240 resolution screen together with its good pixel density. Weighing only 5.3 oz and with dimensions 2.28"x 4.25" x .93", the i-mate K-JAM is actually full of functions and surprises. The unique thing about the display is it switches to landscape when you slide the shell out and back to portrait when you slide it back. The keyboard makes the K-JAM distinct. Accentuated by the flat QWERTY silver keys, the panel becomes seamless through the black background and blue backlight. If that does not impress you, the manufacturers also made sure that you have the option of keeping the backlight on or just when you press a key. Specially designated keys are also added for ease of use. Such keys include cursor direction keys, windows start menu buttons, and soft menu keys. Sliding the shell back, the front displays panel buttons for answering calls, conference, emailing privileges, and Internet connectivity. Volume, Camera and Voice commands are on the side and the power button is situated on top of this mobile phone handset. The i-mate K-JAM is packed with a 195 MHz Texas Instruments OMAP 850 processor, 64MB of built-in RAM, and a 128 MB flash ROM. Having this extensive memory topped with a mini SD slot, one need not worry about space for files, applications, etc. In the event of drained batteries or low power, files are automatically saved and can be functionally recovered through its useful system applications. Data transfer through USB is also available and made simple with the USB slot located at the bottom of the device. Connectivity is not an issue with this phone since it is built with Bluetooth specifically enhanced for more device compatibility and EDGE support. This 4-band GSM phone is also bolstered with 802.11b Wi-Fi functionality. Security through WEP and WPA or LEAP comforts users since all means of sharing is available. A mobile-PDA phone wouldn't be complete without a camera together with a music player. But don't expect too much from these features since it only houses a 1.3 MP CMOS Camera with flash. Thanks to the self-portrait mirror and LED flash, one can take close-up pictures of himself day or night. JAM is designed with a rubber foot to prevent the camera lens from incurring scratches when placed on a flat surface. The digital audio player uses Windows Media Player 10 Mobile for ease of playing music and video viewing. Speaker and microphones for the music player are located upfront which also houses two LED lights indicating Bluetooth, GPRS and charging functions. Audio playback through the external speakers is disappointing, but use the headphones and you get good head banging sound quality. Completing the package, applications run through Windows Mobile 5. With a large number of enhanced and highly functional software compatibility, the K-JAM has the Office basic suite of applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Messenger.
