HTC S710

Chances are that unless you are really into cellular technology, you have never heard of the company known as HTC. Even though they have been making many phones for years, most of the phones that they market are branded with the name of the wireless service provider instead of HTC. Nevertheless, one of the newest phones from HTC is the HTC S710, a GSM smart phone that has a massive amount of features that make it perfect for the corporate arena.

To begin with, the HTC S710 is a quad band GSM phone which makes it the ideal phone for those people who enjoy traveling around the world. The quad band functionality means that a person can use this phone anywhere in the world simply by switching out the SIM chip - an excellent feature if you are a corporate worker who has to travel frequently.

While the form factor is relatively large, that is to be expected in any smart phone - and the HTC S710 is actually one of the more compact smart phones available. It even features a full QWERTY keyboard that can slide out from underneath the phone. The battery life, while not spectacular, gets the job done for most people with seven hours of talk time and around 175 hours of standby time.

The screen, while large in size (240 by 320 pixels) is only capable of displaying sixty five thousand colors. So, while the HTC S710 does have a 2 megapixel camera built in, if you really want to see your pictures in all of their glory, you should put the photos on a computer instead of viewing them on your camera's shoddy color quality screen.

Most corporate people will rarely use their camera and will instead turn to the other great features that the HTC S710 smart phone has to offer instead. The bread and butter of the HTC S710 is the Windows Mobile operating system that comes installed, giving your phone many of the same features as your home computer for maximum effectiveness. Furthermore, there is a media player built in and an expandable memory slot which takes MicroSD cards for all of your music and data storage. Bluetooth and email capabilities are built in, as is the elusive Wi-Fi functionality that far too many phones are missing these days. Unfortunately though, there is no 3G capability in the HTC S710, which is really one of the very few ticks against the phone.

Pros

  • Laundry list of features that smart phone users have come to love
  • Wi-Fi
  • Impressive talk time battery length
  • QWERTY keypad
  • Windows Mobile Operating System

Cons

  • No 3G capability
  • Bland screen quality
  • Standby battery life
  • Subpar camera quality on some phones

Overall

Even though you may not have heard of HTC in the past that does not mean that they are not a big player in the cell phone marketplace. The HTC S710 is one of their best smart phones to date and incorporates enough features that would make most of the people in the corporate world jump with joy.
