Does anyone use any medical gadgets, stuff that monitors your blood pressure, calories etc. or stuff that helps you stay healthy even if you're predominantly sitting on your computer or stuff that helps you manage your sleep schedule?

I'm curious about it. Just a quick look at the medical gadgets category on a gadget site reveals quite a few intriguing devices.

Do you know any you would recommend as a must have?

I think that continuing and deepening government intervention in health care is going to force people to do a lot more home health care. This could be a real boon for the DIY health care market.

We have a HoMedics Percussion Massager. It's kind of an oddity among massage machines. Every other massager I've seen is so weak that they barely tickle your skin. This sucker will pound deep into your muscles.

We also have an electronic blood pressure and pulse checker and an electronic thermometer. For some reason, I don't feel like I trust those as much as the old manual ones.

I'm thinking that I may try to find a muscle stimulator. I used one in physical therapy a few years ago. I have trouble with my patellar tracking going awry and this could help.

Possibly. It's I suppose one good thing about it all. I like the idea of being more independent when it comes to personal healthcare which those gadgets to some extent can provide for. Ideally we'd all have a personal EMH (Emergency Medical Hologram) in our homes.

That sounds pretty cool! Maybe I should get one.
