Have you seen AeroGarden? It's a device that lets you grow food within your home even if you live in the city and have no arable land. It simulates sunlight with a special lamp and has computerized water supply to the plants. There's no dirt involved. You can buy seed kits for it and start growing. It's probably the easiest way to grow some of your own food or flowers that there is.

Haha, I never thought of that possibility.. They probably wouldn't tell even if they knew though.

TexasHiker of Survivalist Boards recently started a pretty good series of YouTube videos on urban gardening.

Nice, thanks! That's certainly a much cheaper option than AeroGarden, albeit it involves a little more work and expertise, but that's what these videos are for.

Soil or arable land is not requirement for plant life. Soil is only reservoir for minerals which disolve in water.

However it would be nice to look how my personal chilli peppers grow in this thing .

Like aeroponic/hydroponic bay on Voyager .

Indeed and they come with AeroGarden (I think that's what they call "nutrients") and are mixed with water.

Apparently this is actually even better than soil.

There's a seed kit for chilli peppers. Here's a progress video of them.

Exactly! We'll need those on future space stations and space ships.
